Marc's World of Opportunity

The hair is real, the moustache is not.

Hello everyone,

In communities across Zambia, Malawi, Ghana and Burkina Faso there are millions of hardworking and innovative people seeking the chance to improve their lives (see www.ewb.ca for more details). Yet, all too often they are stuck - unable to move forward because they lack the same opportunities that you and I have here in Canada.

I have a goal of fundraising 6500$ before the end of the winter holidays, and it will make my parents happy to know that I will shave my head when I reach my goal (the hair will go to help make a wig for cancer survivors).

I wrote a poem to explain why you should donate (Remember to read the poem backwards after), inspired by Jonathan Reed. Whether you donate 5$, 50$, or 500$, you are part of the movement to help build a world of opportunities.

A World without Opportunities

I live in a World without Opportunity for everyone.

I cannot bring myself to believe that

Society shall support our neighbors in poverty.

Currently, there are 2.8 billion people that live under 2$ a day, and

It needs to happen for us to maintain our well-being!

However, it will change...

For the worse.

Right now, the world is developing an incredible inertia,

And honestly, I must concede :

In the future, my kids will be in a cut-throat competition for wealth.

To me, it is a foreign concept that

They will put their well-being on the line for the benefits of others.

People will realize international development is very slow and takes time, and one day,

I stongly hope

Will only be found in museums and literature.

Human nature: the poverty gap and inequality between humans

will expand

so that the common view

will be to discuss

To capitalize on weaknesses. The solutions to this problem

let the rich get wealthier

by givng them opportunities, and not

allow the poor to gain strength

;

This is simply the way things need to be

Because, after all, this is OUR world.

Why should we give our money to help the people in poverty?
