Ghada's World of Opportunity |
||
Dear Friends, family, and colleagues, As some of you may already know, I have always felt a connection with the developing world and more specifically Africa especially since my trip to Uganda a few years ago. Wanting to make a difference while still here in the developed world I searched for an organization that would cater to this connection and was fortunate enough to find it with Engineers Without Borders. In my position as the 'Overseas Connections Coordinator' on the executive of the Montreal chapter, I have been given the opportunity to see first hand the difference that EWB volunteers can make overseas. I have been able to see that EWB can indeed have a positive impact in certain countries in the developing world. I am proud to say that this year I am helping Engineers Without Borders build a 'World of Opportunity' for rural Africans. In communities across Zambia, Malawi, Ghana and Burkina Faso there are millions of hardworking and innovative people seeking the chance to improve their lives. Yet, all too often they are stuck - unable to move forward because they lack the same opportunities that you and I have here in Canada. I support EWB’s work to foster these opportunities for rural Africans. I am especially motivated by EWB's contribution to improved infrastructure in Ghana. All across rural Ghana people have limited access to public services and infrastructure. There are not enough wells and hand pumps for clean water, only a few reliable roads to transport food, and minimal schools to secure a strong future. For the people in these vibrant communities, the lack of infrastructure severely inhibits their potential. EWB is focused on addressing the root causes of widespread infrastructure failure. EWB volunteers are testing new approaches to evidence-based planning and improving leadership in local governments to ensure that infrastructure investments are made where they are needed most. This is why I am asking you to support EWB’s work this holiday season. I believe that EWB is a powerful vehicle for creating positive change. EWB is seeking to increase its impact – by doubling its volunteer capacity and flexibility to innovate. I know that they will use your donation effectively, and continue to make great things happen. This holiday season please donate to my World of Opportunity campaign and support my passion and commitment to EWB. Together, we can help increase the opportunities for rural Africans to thrive. |
