Me at the EWB 2009 National Conference!
Friends, family, and colleagues – I have been working with Engineers without Borders (EWB) at U of T since I started university! Out of all of the clubs and organizations I have worked with so far in my life, I have never encountered one like EWB - one that is so full of passionate, committed and hard working critical thinkers. Through out my time with EWB, I have learned and gained so much - I have opened my eyes to the poverty, injustice and inequality that exists around the globe, but more so, I have discovered the massive potential and capacity of individuals (like yourself and I) to create sustainable and positive change for others - like those living in rural Africa. This holiday season, I am committed to helping build a World of Opportunity for these hardworking and innovative people seeking the chance to improve their lives. Yet, all too often they are stuck - unable to move forward because they lack the opportunities they need. I believe the solution starts here, in Canada, with students and engineers like ourselves. We can help create this change by fostering and educating global engineers, students and professionals who are critical thinkers and understand their individual capacity as practical problem-solvers to create positive change. EWB is working to do just this - help cultivate a new generation of globally-minded problem solvers, and aims to contribute to curriculum at 20 universities in 2010 to equip 15,000 students with the knowledge they need to become global engineers. I am asking you to support EWB’s work and my passion this holiday season by donating to the World of Opportunity Campaign because I know you believe and understand the importance of global engineering. Your donation will go directly towards scaling-up EWB's work overseas in the upcoming year and to achieve our goal of nurturing a new generation of global engineers here in Canada. Even if it's 5$, imagine the impact 100 five dollars could have! Together, we can help increase the opportunities for rural Africans to thrive.Peace and have a bright and healthy holiday season =) Michelle |
