Sarah's World of Opportunity

Meymuna and I pose in front of her rice

Friends, family, and colleagues –

Last year I helped Engineers Without Borders build a World of Opportunity for rural Africans. I implemented a campaign to promote the consumption of Ghana Rice.

The campaign was astoundingly successful.

Meymuna and Ayisha (rice processors) attest to this in the video on this site. Thanks to the increase in demand they have been able to run a steady business. Due to their steady business they just received a contract from the World Food Program who will purchase 150 bags (88 kg each) of rice to provide to school children. There are plans to scale-up the campaign to a national level and run it for the next 3 years. An organisation from Nigeria came to learn how they can implement such a successful idea in Nigeria. This is a great example of the power of an idea that works - it has ripple effects.

This year I am heading up a team of 10 volunteers who are currently developing ideas that work. They're working on providing small-scale farmers business skills and helping them access credit and markets. These opportunities are ensuring that hardworking and innovative people like Meymuna and Ayisha get the chance to improve their lives.

This is why I am asking you to support EWB’s work this holiday season. I believe that EWB is a powerful vehicle for creating positive change. EWB is seeking to increase its impact – by doubling its volunteer capacity and flexibility to innovate. I know that they will use your donation effectively, and continue to make great things happen.

This holiday season please donate to my World of Opportunity campaign and support my passion and commitment to EWB. Together, we can help increase the opportunities for rural Africans to thrive.
