Robin and David's World of Opportunity |
||
Dear friends, family, and colleagues Once again, both of us are very excited this holiday season to be supporting Engineers Without Borders and its World of Opportunity for Rural Africans campaign. We are quite aware of how hard it is to buy that perfect gift for someone during the holiday season, which is why we have done all the hard work for you by narrowing it down to only 2 options. 1) Donate to our campaign 2) Start your own campaign! In all seriousness, we were overwhelmed by the support that our family, friends, and colleagues showed last year, and we thank everyone who helped us raise funds for an organisation and a cause that we deeply care about and believe in. The cause that we've selected this year, helping African farmers improve their business opportunities, is particularly meaningful for us it is the area we both worked in. Agriculture is the cornerstone of African economies and EWB works in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi and Zambia to increase opportunities for farmers to gain the business skills and knowledge they need to make a viable income from their humble plots of land. During our times in West and Southern Africa, we saw first hand how important it was that Africans see themselves as entrepreneurs and innovators as opposed to passive receivers of aid. EWBs work directly aims to instill the entrepreneurial spirit in these farmers by creating opportunities that allow farmers to see their farms as a place of investment and a place that allows them to take control over their own futures. In addition, EWB works to build the capabilities of local development workers, who are equally as passionate about supporting this cause, who can continue to carry out this work and therefore create a virtuous cycle of African development. EWBs programs have continued to evolve and become increasingly sophisticated over the past year, and we are poised to really invest. However, for the first time since we started working with EWB, we are being held back by a lack of resources! By doubling its volunteer capacity and flexibility to innovate, we will be able to significantly increase our scope of impact. This holiday season please donate to our World of Opportunity campaign and support our passion and commitment to EWB. Thank you for all your support, Robin and David |
