Binnu's World of Opportunity

My friend Cecilia who could cook a wicked nsima and school any contractor on the finer points of concrete construction.

Hello friends, family and colleagues,

I am pretty excited to be doing a personal fundraiser this holiday season to help Engineers Without Borders build a World of Opportunity for rural Africans.

Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work with a small organization in Malawi that was involved in providing better access to clean water and sanitation to rural and slum areas. I met many innovative and passionate Malawians who were working hard to improve their lives and the lives of others in their country. It was inspiring and humbling.

Since I’ve been back in Canada I have been involved with EWB in connecting Canadians to Africa through their actions. Now, while it may not be as glamorous as a Malawian placement, it is still pretty exciting! The two main initiatives I am involved with are:

- Developing a learning/sharing program to help better prepare volunteers and other well-wishing Canadians who are going overseas to do development work.

- Spreading awareness and increasing accessibility of simple actions Canadians can take to directly help rural Africans in a sustainable way. A great example of this is buying Fair Trade coffee.

The thousands of volunteers at Engineers Without Borders are leading several similar initiatives to engage Canadians and to work directly with rural Africans. Their work spans the width of Canada and is focused on some of the poorest regions in Africa - Malawi, Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ghana.

This holiday season, please join me in supporting Engineers Without Borders in their work with rural Africans. Click here to donate.

Thank you,

Binnu
