Thank you again to everyone for donating--its pretty incredible that we were able to raise over $2000 in less than a month. And believe it or not, I had a pretty good time doing it. Also, a specific shout out to my colleagues at Peter Kiewit Sons. Together we raised over $1000 of the money. Can't say enough how much your support mean; every kilometer you donated means more opportunity for bright, motivated, and hardworking Africans. All the best for 2010. RUNNING DISTANCES Day One - 9.0 km ($180) Day Two - 14.0 km ($280) Day Three - 10.0 km ($200) Day Four - 21.0 km ($420) Day Five - 7.0 km ($140) Day Six - 7.0 km ($140) Day Seven - 10.0 km ($200) Day Eight - 25.0 km ($500) If you have any questions, thoughts, or ideas about EWB; don't hesitate to send me an email at josh.rj.workman@gmail.com. I'd definitely be pumped to tell you more about how I've gotten involved, and why I'm so excited about the organization. ______________________________________________________________________ Happy Holidays friends, family, colleagues, and visitors! First, let me thank you for taking the time to visit my World Of Opportunity Campaign Page. Now, let me tell you about a little bit of craziness I’m pursuing this week. Every day from December 14th to 18th my alarm will be beeping at 5:00 am; I’ll be dawning tights, toques, mits, and fleece; grabbing my head lamp; and of course, not forgetting some sort of shield for that inevitable Vancouver rain before hopping out the door. And then? I’m running. A minimum of 7 kilometers. Every day. Before breakfast. Before showering. Before I catch the bus to start my day at work. Sound like just another grandiose exercise regimine? Perhaps not. In Malawi, (southeast Africa, just south of Kenya), people all over the country have to walk distances like this every single day just to gather the water they need for their day’s activities. There’s no option to roll over and press snooze. And though there’s no toque and mits – the sub Saharan heat is arguably much more challenging. Hence, I’m starting the week by trying to better understand the hardships of rural African livelhoods. However, I want to finish the week with over $700 raised for Engineers Without Borders. Through my involvement in the organization over the past six months, I have been continually taken back by the humble, self critical, and ever improving approach that is applied to both their overseas and in Canada programming. And this is what makes me feel not just compelled, but very excited to invite you to take part in my World Of Opportunity. For EVERY $20 that you donate, I run one kilometer. To get me up to the minimum of 35 km for the week I plan to run; I’ll need to raise $700 – but with every $20 beyond that, you’ve got me out earlier, running faster, longer, harder. And all in the holiday spirit. I’ll be keeping track of my progress on this site, so be sure to check in next week and see how it goes. Thank you so much for your support, and I wish you a very happy holiday.Shout outs to people who have donated, but aren't listed on the right. Vera Liao - $20 (1.0 km) Sarah McArthur - $20 (1.0 km) Lyndsey Hannigan - $20 (1.0 km) Jessica Soedirgo - $20 (1.0 km) |
