Dear friends, family, and colleagues

This year I am helping Engineers Without Borders build a World of Opportunity for rural Africans.

In communities across Zambia, Malawi, Ghana and Burkina Faso there are millions of hardworking and innovative people seeking the chance to improve their lives. Yet, all too often, they are unable to move forward because they lack the same opportunities that you and I have here in Canada.

I have become increasingly driven over the past two years to make choices that help create opportunities for Africans. I am even more driven to help Canadians discover and make their own positive, informed choices. This is why I strongly support EWB’s work to foster opportunities for rural African's through programs in Canada and Africa. I am especially excited about EWB's approach to improving the Canadian government's contributions to development. EWB helps Canadians understand the issue of aid effectiveness and holds Canada’s political leaders accountable for their approach to international development. Now more than ever, our government needs to reestablish itself as a global leader and drastically improve the effectiveness of our foreign aid. This is just one of EWB's many programs.
